ggui: A Generative Interface Runtime over MCP

ggui contributors
2026-08

About

Apache-2.0 protocol and reference runtime for generating ephemeral, interactive interfaces from natural-language agent requests over MCP. ggui includes a self-hosted server, schema-negotiated render contracts, MCP Apps host helpers, bidirectional user events, reusable blueprints and gadgets, and runnable integrations for Claude, OpenAI Agents SDK, and Google ADK.

Summary

Why ggui Adds New Signal:

1. Runtime-generated interfaces: Turns an agent's natural-language request and data into an interactive UI instead of selecting only predefined widgets
2. Negotiated render contract: Handshakes expose exact prop schemas and validate every render against the agreed component contract
3. Bidirectional MCP loop: Streams rendered UI to MCP Apps hosts and returns clicks, forms, and other user gestures to the agent
4. Reusable interface layer: Blueprints make known screens repeatable while gadgets expose maps, charts, camera, and other client capabilities to generation
5. Substantive release signal: v0.12.0 added portable theme delivery, WCAG AA contrast checks, prop-sensitivity validation, and accurate runtime version identity
